Frequently Asked Questions:

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions relating to surgery, if you do not find your answer below please click here to email Mr Neil Solomons with your question.

Q. Have you any printed information available?

A. Yes, Please contact us for information on various procedures: Tel: (44)01483 451473, Fax: (44)01483 454286,e-mail: solomonsn@lasermebeautiful.com

Q. Have we pre and post operative photographs?

A. Photographs of patients are confidential and may not be freely shown. Some patients are happy to have their photographs shown and Mr Solomons uses these for lectures, workshops and other teaching sessions. It is well to remember that surgeons who show photographs of patients will only show their best results. The result usually achieved in another patient may not be an attainable goal for you!

Q. How much are your procedures?

A. The cost of procedures varies according to how much the patient is having done. For example a face-lift will have a certain price, but this may increase if there is added eyelid surgery or laser treatment. The hospitals where Mr Solomons operates provide ‘fixed cost’ packages for cosmetic surgery. These include the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees as well as all the hospital costs. These prices can be obtained by contacting Mr Solomons’ secretary

Q. How long will I be out of circulation?

A. This depends on the procedure you have had performed.
Face-Lift – 2 weeks
Laser resurfacing – 2 weeks
Eyelid surgery - 10 days
Laser removal of blemishes – 2-3 days (camouflage make-up can be worn)
Photorejuvenation – none
Laser hair removal – none
Rhinoplasty –(nose reshaping) – 1 week
Otoplasty –(correction of protruding ears) – 5 days

These figures are approximate and vary from one patient to another.

Q. How long to heal?

A. Variable depending on the procedure.
For face-lift and eyelid surgery, wounds have usually healed by 2 weeks and camouflage make-up can be worn if there is residual bruising.

Laser resurfacing – the face is very red for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks camouflage make-up can be worn. This redness fades over a period of months, usually within 2-3 months up to a maximum of 6 months.

Laser removal of blemishes – (sun spots, thread veins etc) these will be red for approximately 10 days. However, camouflage make-up can be worn the day after treatment.

With all procedures you will be given printed information and advice from both Mr Solomons and his aesthetic nurse.

Q. What will I look like post operatively?

A. This depends on the procedure.
Face lift – some bruising. Sutures in place for one week.

Eyelid surgery – bruising for approximately 10 days

Laser resurfacing – redness (severe for 1-2 weeks) fades after that. Camouflage make-up can be worn after 2 weeks.

Photorejuvenation – no visible after effects (e.g. redness)
Hair removal – no visible after effects

Nose reshaping – (rhinoplasty) – ‘back eyes’ for one week if nasal fracture is part of the procedure. Dressings on the nose for five days.

Otoplasty/Pinnaplasty (for protruding ears) – bandage around the head for 5 days.

Laser treatment of blemishes – some redness for up to 10 days.

Q. How long will it last?

A. This varies from patient to patient and on the technique used for a particular procedure. The genetics of the patient, sun exposure and cigarette smoking all have a significant influence on what can be achieved and how long the result will be sustained.

Q. How long before sunbathing?

A. Sun exposure causes ageing of the skin. Tanning prior to treatment is inadvisable as the pigment of the tan ‘competes’ for the laser energy with the tissues intended for laser treatment. Lasered skin will sunburn and damage more than non-lasered skin.
We strongly advise good sun protection and will offer advice on this at your consultation.

Q. Will I have scarring or bruising?

A. Any incision or laser effect on the skin may produce a scar. Every effort is made to place scars in the most invisible way possible! However, every patient’s skin reacts differently and the identical incision in different patients may produce a different end-result. Whenever bleeding occurs there is a risk of bruising. We recommend Arnica tablets both before and after surgery. The dosage and duration of treatment will be advised prior to surgery.
